THE Solidarity with British Association, which has helped foreign residents on a variety of matters over the last six years, is preparing to close, Voices Newspaper has learned.
Voices received information that the association was intending to, or has, closed its doors, after it was first set up by Fulya Köysüren, who had previously spent ten years living and working in Shropshire.
When Voices contacted the Association by phone at their base in Yenihisar, Guldal Sonmezler, who helps at the Association, said: “We are doing the paperwork to close. There are not many members and that’s about it. It was difficult for me to continue.”
The phone was then passed to Ms Köysüren who confirmed the association ‘has been closed’ and that we (Voices) could confirm that via the Didim Governor’s office.
Ms Köysüren added: “Guldal has been volunteering these past two-and-a-half years for the association and she says it is too much. I am very busy too.”
Ms Köysüren said that the association’s board had taken the decision to close it down, but she declined to say how many members were on the board.
Voices reported previously that Ms Köysüren stepped down from her position from the association as President as she had passed her law exams. The association handled a wide range of social and cultural issues for the foreign community.
Ms Köysüren said she would continue to practice as a lawyer.
