CONTRADICTORY messages were emerging from state hospitals this week about the charges for consultation and treatment being doubled.

People without insurance and tourists presently pay 15.50TL, but there were rumblings from some expat quarters that this could be doubled to 30TL.

Voices alerted the British Consulate, in Izmir, who initially informed us there was no immediate change.

The consulate staff contacted Didim state, Kusadasi and Izmir hospitals, and all stated that NO there is presently no change to the 15.50TL charge.

Later consulate staff confirmed that Bodrum had state hospital had begun implementing the new charge of 30TL

It appears a new law was passed doubling the price on June 3, but hospitals were only beginning to realize the new charge change from 15.50TL to 30TL.
