A BRITISH run café in Altinkum has closed down, its Facebook page has revealed.

The Altinkum Tearoom – opposite Meryemana Hotel – has been successfully run for the last five years by its owner Jean Swales.

But a statement, dated June 28, on its Facebook page said: “It is with much sadness I am having to post this news to you all but the Tearoom is now closed after having a visit from the police and informing me they had had complaints from other businesses in the resort that I was English and working in the Tearoom and it shouldn’t be allowed.

“The police advised me to get a Turkish chef but I felt this would not be the same as I enjoyed what I was doing and was not told this when I opened the tearoom five seasons ago. I would rather close it at no1 on trip advisor.”

Voices contacted Jean, but she declined to elaborate further, but added that she would be issuing more information at a later stage.
