Disappointed with Didim

Chris

WE own a small flat in a block of nine near the Istanbul Hotel just down the hill from the Police Station and have been owners for about eight years. We usually manage to visit three times per year.

We wanted to comment on how scruffy the resort has looked for the past two years.  The main areas are passable, apart from the main thoroughfare from the Goc Hotel to the Dolunay complex. Parts of this walkway are almost derelict. It was shocking. Unit after unit not only closed down but looking very run down too.

Often we have joked about the standard of work carried by the council but when you stop and think and look beyond the main front then it all looks very shabby.

Last year we witnessed over a period of a couple of hours a dog pack eating a dead dog next to the taxi stand. Shocking!

Having just had ten days we did not have one good night’s sleep. Dogs barking all night long. Constant loud barking. Pack after pack of howling, barking dogs. It’s ridiculous.

I think over the few years we have owned we have become blind to the negatives. This year however we unintentionally looked at the place from a tourist viewpoint.

To be honest if we didn’t own then after this year’s experiences we wouldn’t look to return. We often take the back hill up towards the Police station. We now note that to accompany the car pound a tip has been added. Why oh why in this location.

The far view is the harbour, Bodrum across a wonderful Aegean but you have to ignore the rusting cars and rubbish tip. What on earth is going on with Altinkum. We even had driveby gunfire from the hotel just behind us last Sunday morning 14.9.14.

The place looks a mess. Rotten food bags everywhere. Filth and litter. I wouldn’t in its present state take friends out with us as it’s frankly embarrassing.
