THE constant flood of illegal immigrants coming to Didim as their last destination point to get to Europe continues unabated.
Within the last 10 days, Coast Guard officials in Didim and Kusadasi have been working hard to rescue immigrants who have been setting sail to the Greek islands – the back door into Europe and supposedly a more secure life.
This week coast guards detained 87 illegal immigrants trying to cross to Samos from Kusadasi and Didim,
A total of 75 refugees, mostly women and children from Syria and Eritrea, were detained in Kusadasi, while another group were detained in the Kusadasi port area with fake passports.
Meanwhile in Didim, coast guards detained 87 Syrian immigrants in the Tekağaç area after they had tried to make an escape in a flimsy rubber dinghy.
Last week, the Coast Guard in Didim apprehended another 80 illegal immigrants, again from Syria, as they tried to escape to Greece.
All the immigrants have been handed over to Aydin police foreigners’ department to be dealt with.
