AN INTERNATIONAL expat survey has revealed friendliness overcomes instability in Turkey

InterNations, the world’s largest expat network, conducted the Expat Insider Survey 2014 – completed by close to 14,000 expatriates.

It aims to provide a comprehensive picture of life abroad: Focusing on the general quality of life, it identifies the most popular expat destinations. Topics covered include work, family, relationships and romance, leisure, and personal finances.

As an essential part of the survey, respondents rated their satisfaction with various aspects of expat life. This served as the basis for an overall ranking of 61 countries, as well as five topical indices.

The survey report also features detailed country profiles for 20 destinations and 15 in-depth nationality profiles. An “expat typology”, according to reasons for relocating, rounds out the report.

The weather in Turkey has resident expats excited despite the other challenges life in Turkey presents.

The country’s medical care, available leisure activities, transport, and personal safety are on par with the other 60 countries in the survey, but respondents are not enthused about the nation’s economic situation.

Nevertheless, many are satisfied with their work-life balance and feel that their disposable income is sufficient for their daily lives.

Turkey-based respondents also rate the cost of living well, and more than six in ten consider housing to be affordable.

Even though only two in five consider the country to be peaceful and politically stable, over four in five resident expats feel there is a friendly attitude towards families – a percentage that surpasses the global average.

InterNations is the no. 1 social network for expatriates worldwide, with over 1.4 million members in 390 cities all across the globe. As the first international community for people who live and work abroad, InterNations connects expats with other global minds who share similar interests and needs.
