Three-day olive festival to launch

A THREE-DAY Olive Oil Festival will be hosted in Didim next week to mark the town’s main agricultural industry.

With olives being a large staple of the local economy and a growing agricultural earner for farmers, the Olive Oil festival will be celebrated between Friday November 7and Sunday November 9.

The third annual festival is being organized in conjunction with Didim Chamber of Agriculture, the Didim Mayor, the City Council, Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Tradesmen and Artisans, Craftsmen and Artisans Cooperative Credit Surety and Didim Tourism Infrastructure Services Union and Didim Vocational School.

The festival is expected to draw industry visitors from Leros, Kamlimnos, Patmos and guests from the Greek Izmir Consul General and Greek chamber of Commerces.

In a joint press release, the organising committee outlined details of the festival schedule. The main focus of the events that are highlighted below will be in and around the Isbank area on Ataturk Boulevard, unless otherwise stated, the press release states:

Friday November 7:

1pm: An olive tree planting ceremony by guests from Greece and Didim Council representatives.

1.30pm: A Didim Municipality cortege in front of İşbankası to Ziraat Bank

1:45pm Dahot Folk dances

2pm: Opening remarks at the Fairground, Photo and Art Contest Award Ceremony

2:30pm: Festival Opening Ribbon Cutting

– Traditional Keskek served

– Thousand year old olive trees exhibition (Ahmet Aydin Streams)

– Olive Themed Art & Photography Competition exhibition trip

– Producer Stands

4:30pm: Fairground Activities for Children

5pm: Concert: Abdal Neset Ertas Group

12 noon: Olive Oil Competition Cooking/Food Bazaar olive oil

2:45pm: A seminar on Organic Agriculture and Natural Agricultural Policy by Prof. Tayf Özkaya, Ege University Faculty of Agriculture

11am: Traditional Breakfast at the Harvest Field, at Fevzipaşa
