District traffic controls in place

TRAFFIC police have been carrying out a number of random checks on motorcycles across the town.

The Didim District Police Department Traffic Control Bureau carried out routine checks last week with emphasis on the maintenance of motorcycles, noise pollution from motorcycle exhausts and catching riders speaking on cell phones as they travelled.

The crackdown resulted in 11 riders facing prosecution for various alleged offences and two motorcycles were confiscated due to their unroadworthy conditions.

New Didim police chief to be named

A NEW police chief is set to be named shortly after the present incumbent took up a post in Aydin.

Ömür Candemir had arrived as the news police chief in May, but was re-assigned to the province’s Communications and Electronics Branch.

A new replacement is expected to be announced within the coming weeks.

Didimspor notch up their fifth draw

IT was a case of Groundhog Day for Didimspor last Sunday when they drew 1-1 against Narlidere Belediye – their fifth similar score-line in six games.

While Didim are still fifth and six points off leaders Manisa, there is also a worrying trend emerging. In their last three games, Didim have had four players sent off.

On Sunday, Didim went down 1-0 in the 22nd minute, but Didim equalised just before the break. The only note of the second half was the 63rd minute sending off of a Didim player.

Didim will entertain sixth-placed Sindirgi on Sunday (Nov 9). KO 3pm.

Cannabis and ecstasy seized

POLICE have seized small quantities of drugs in the town.

Officers carried out a house raid and recovered 99 ecstasy tablets and 230 grams of cannabis. One person was detained for questioning.
