THE British Chamber of Commerce in Turkey has made a financial contribution to Didim’s AKUT group following their annual Christmas and New Year function in Istanbul.

Didim AKUT will be the ultimate beneficiaries of the donation enabling them to purchase vital and much needed equipment.

This donation recognises the international contribution to Didim AKUT and the work it undertakes for the local community.

It is a direct result of a meeting with the British Consul General and Nasuh Mahruki, the founder of AKUT, in Istanbul when the Consul General offered his full support in promoting what AKUT does.

Steve Lambert, team leader for Didim AKUT said: “It has been a very good year for us.

“We have increased our membership with a new generation of Turkish recruits, have been signed off as operational in search and rescue by AKUT which acknowledges our professionalism and commitment and we have undertaken a live joint operation with the Bodrum team.”

He added: “This donation by the British Chamber of Commerce is very pleasing and it is great to have international support for what we are trying to do here in Didim.

“Having met with both the Governor and the Mayor earlier in the year we are now hopeful that with their promised support we will be able to get some help locally to keep us going.”
