AYDIN Province bosses have green lighted a survey to look at solving chronic flooding problems in Didim.

Aydin General Directorate of Water and Sewage Works (ASKİ) has begun work on the survey focusing on such areas as Cumhuriyet Caddesi, İnönü Bulvarı, 75. Yıl Sanayi Sitesi and Avcılar Çukuru (Hunters Valley).

It came after an urgent meeting between Didim Mayor Deniz Atabay and ASKİ  Deputy General Manager Cemaledin Çerçioğlu.

Mr Atabay said most streets in the identified areas, as well as within Altinkum, had been adversely affected by the heavy rainfall in recent days due to incomplete and inadequate infrastructure.

However, as a result of the meeting, Aydin had green-lighted a survey to look at solutions to preventing flooding in the future.

Mr Atabay added: “Mr Çerçioğlu knows Didim’s problems well.

“There are very serious problems and deficiencies in the infrastructure of our town. But more importantly, there are insufficient lines in many places. So serious, that extreme rainfall causes areas to experience flooding.

“Therefore Mr. Çerçioğlu, has launched a major study on hand. I thank them. We are ready to contribute in every way until this issue is resolved.”

Mr Çerçioğlu said: “Aydin has given instructions for the matter to be resolved as soon as possible. Storm flooding is one of the most important problems of our district.”
