SCORES of residents headed down to Altinkum’s Main Beach last Sunday to take part in activities hosted by the Help-in-Hands charity.
The organization, which has helped numerous disadvantaged and disabled people in the town in recent years, launched a full on traditional Easter programme on the beach, with its main venue being Toy Bar.
Barbara Heywood, of Help-in-Hands, paid tribute to those who organized the games and fun, as well as the expats and holidaymakers who turned out despite the inclement weather.
She said: “The weather didn’t stop lots of people coming to Toy Bar for the Easter Sunday Funday.
“Joan was in charge of the egg-painting, Jan was using her charm on the Tombola, Cate was running the Hoop-la and getting folk to part with their lira for the ‘What’s My Name’ to win a beautiful cuddly white gorilla. This was won by Doreen Craven.
“Zilpha and Hikmet got everyone down on the beach for the Easter Egg Hunt, followed by the egg ‘n spoon race, 3-legged race and welly-wanging.
“You could hear the shrieks of laughter up and down the prom as people were falling over and nearly being decapitated by flying wellies! I don’t think our Turkish friends had ever seen anything like it before.
“Lots stopped to stare disbelievingly at the Brits taking part in their traditional Easter pastimes but they ended up laughing like the rest of us.
“The Easter Bonnet competition saw some beautiful and unusual creations that were fit for Ladies’ Day at Cheltenham!” Four year old Isobel Richards won the Easter bonnet competition.
She added: “A great day and many thanks to Okan and staff at the Toy and to everybody who helped us to raise funds for our new project.”
