Clean up on the coastline

STUDENTS and hotel staff cleaned Yesilkent beach as part of a joint initiative to promote a clean environment.

The Didim Clean Environment campaign was initiated by the Ministry of Environment to improve environmental awareness in the community. It was implemented across Turkey between May 1-7.

Students from Didim Zeynep -Mehmet Donmez Vocational and Technical High School, and staff from the Venosa Hotel, took to cleaning up the local coastline, with support from Didim council officers and the mayor Deniz Atabay.

Several bags of rubbish were collected from off the beach as a result of the morning’s promotional campaign.

A council spokesman said: “The aim of the campaign across Turkey is to promote environmental awareness. Education is key as we constantly find our beaches with waste, including plastics glass. This pollution is not just on the sands but in the seas as well.”
