DIDIM Mayor Deniz Atabay has declared that plans are currently underway for a new Sunday food market in the Efeler district of the town.

He said at his weekly press conference that plans are afoot for a 60-stall operation, possibly as early as next week, on land located opposite the new health centre in Efeler Mah. It will operate on a weekly basis

He said plans for a better location for the existing one around Esentepe Mosque, in Camlik Mah – which in the summer reduces traffic to a crawl and clogs local roads – are under consideration as well.

However no day or location has been announced yet, but will be shortly.

In the meantime, here’s a list of weekly markets for expats and tourists. It isn’t comprehensive, but put together with the help of readers:

KUSADASI: Food/non-food market near Ladies Beach area (behind Koctas).

AYDIN: In the çarsı area (the biggest & bursting with everything)

WEDNESDAYS

SOKE: Food/non-food, central area near Tansas 

DIDIM: Central, food only

KUSADASI: Non-food market outside the Meteorology building (near the Private hospital).

THURSDAY

AKKOY: Food Market

FRIDAY

AKBUK: Food/non-food market

KUSADASI: Food market in the town centre.

SATURDAY

DIDIM: Saturday Market, opposite the main Bus Station
AYDIN: In the area behind the council building (Mainly food & clothes)
YENIDOGAN: (This is on the side of the Soke-Milas-Bodrum bound road) head out of Soke

SUNDAY

AYDIN: In the area behind the old bus station (again everything but on a smaller scale)
