6,000TL raised for unit
A CAMPAIGN for a dedicated town cardio unit in Didim has been given a 6,000TL kickstarter.
Two Old Time Music Hall performances last Thursday and Friday nights by members of the Didim Glee Club enabled the proceeds to be raised for the Help-in-Hands project.
Playing to audiences of more than 200 on each night, the club members put on truly memorable performances with a walk down memory lane of song, dance, monologues and jokes.
The campaign is aimed at raising 18,000TL for potential life-saving equipment at a new cardiology unit at Didim State Hospital.
Presently, Turkish and expat residents have to visit regional hospitals, such as Soke, for heart and general cardio assessments as there are no facilities at the town’s hospital. However campaigners for the Help-in-Hands organisation has stepped into launch what is its most ambitious project yet.
The money raised will go towards buying two high-tech cardio assessments units, as well as furniture, for the unit.
Residents react to main road works
PLANS by Aydin council to plough on with road works across the length of Adnan Menderes Bulvari – the main road to the Marina and Third Beach – have drawn sharp reactions from some residents.
The work initially began to dig up parts of the road to lay water and flood alleviation pipe work.
But as the summer has gone on, the pneumatic drilling of the road has caused some residents to kick up in anger – given that construction works nationwide should have stopped on May 15.
The road is now being scraped and will be resurfaced.
