A SHARP-EYED Voices reader has asked why taxi rates are quoted differently from the international and domestic terminals At Bodrum Airport.
The reader drew Voices attention to the anomaly while picking up friends at the airport.
He queried why rates on the international side are quoted in USD, GBP and Euro, but only in Turkish Lira on the domestic side.
He said: “Take Yalikavak as an example. Domestic arrivals terminal Yalikavak is 140TL and advertised in lira only.
“At the international arrivals terminal, Yalikavak is advertised as £40. The current exchange rate equates this price to over 180TL.”
He added: “Why do the airport authorities knowingly allow the taxis to charge customers at international arrivals more than those at domestic arrivals?
“The tourism industry in Turkey isn’t doing well this year. Tourism leaders can’t understand why. Maybe it’s the instability in the region, they say. Perhaps they should look closer to home – to those who are tourism service providers.”
