A SURVEY looking into the feasibility of improving Didim’s pavements and high-sided kerbing for the disabled is to be launched.
Didim Mayor Deniz Atabay said at his weekly press conference that a team of officers would initially assess the ease of access for the disabled along Cumhuriyet Caddesi and to see if any improvements can be made.
He said he wanted to see if any improvements can be made and to ensure that they conformed with pavement and road regulations.
The survey comes a week after members of the disabled community staged a protest highlighting the pavement shortcomings for the wheelchair-bound in the district.
The protest was backed by the Didim branch for the Disabled Association and was held on December 12 on Cumhuriyet Caddesi.
It was attended by the mayor and Didim Governor Iskender Yonden who both pledged to seek improvements for the disabled.
