Update

Letter to the editor. Gail Welburn:

Two years ago, I desperately needed advice on a way to obtain my Tapu. At that point I had no water and no electric. Many years previous, I had moved into my apartment but due to complex issues, I was unable to obtain one.

I did initially go down the legal route, but for certain reasons, things moved slowly and ground to a halt. That was in 2014.

I was at the end of my tether and wanted advice.  I went to Voices Newspaper out of desperation and a sense of urgency as my family included a 14-month-old little girl were coming out to stay with us. Voices made some recommendations and offered sound advice.

In a short space of time, I found lawyer Sibel Yilmaz.  She looked at my case and promised she could get my Tapu. I believed and trusted her.

She is the only person in Turkey throughout this case to carry out the task in hand. She took the matter to court and won.  I have nothing but praise for her, and cannot thank her enough for her kindness, understanding and sheer loyalty.

She has become a friend whom I respect and look forward to seeing.  I now have my Tapu and am paying (yet again) for utility connections in May when I arrive. I cannot tell you how relieved I am.am writing this as I know from experience, there are many English people in Didim, much like me, or even worse, who do not know where to go or what to do next to get peace of mind or solution to property problems.

I am writing this as I know from experience, there are many foreign people in Didim, much like me, or even worse, who do not know where to go or what to do next to get peace of mind or a solution to property problems.

I have told my neighbours, friends and people who I am in touch with in Altinkum all about Sibel and her determination and fight. My story is true and it was horrible. But there is light at the end of the tunnel.
