TRIBUTES have been paid to a British teenager who died following a tragic accident off Altinkum in the Aegean Sea, it has emerged.

Voices understands Subhan Khan, from Solihull, Birmingham, died last Wednesday (May 18) following an incident while out on a trip with friends in Altinkum.

Suggestions by UK national media that he died as a result of a jet ski accident or that he drowned in a swimming pool are apparently misleading. However, the full details of the incident at sea are yet to emerge.

Mr Khan was on a short three-day trip, according to a relative who lives in Pakistan, speaking to the Birmingham Mail. Tributes have poured in on social media for the 19-year-old student who has been described by friends as “such a nice lad”.

The victim’s cousin, Raja Umair, spoke to the Mail about the family’s loss from his home in Pakistan. He said Subhan previously lived in Stoke-on-Trent, but was living with his parents in Solihull.

The business and commerce student, who met his cousin during a visit he had made to Pakistan just five months ago, said his family had been left heartbroken by his death.

Raja, who is also 19, said: “Subhan’s family is obviously very upset about what has happened.

He was very young and was only on holiday for three days. I have been told he fell into the sea. He was on holiday with a cousin and some friends.

“There is a police investigation and his father has travelled out to Turkey.”

The Huddersfield Examiner saidDewsbury-born Mr Khan’s death had left relatives struggling to come to terms with what happened. His uncle, newsagent Omar Khan, 47, said: “There are no words to describe how we feel.

“Subhan was a special person and he was like a son to me. He was caring and compassionate and was so good natured. He saw the best in everyone. It has hit Subhan’s father, Naz, very hard.

“He still expects his son to walk back through the door. He can’t comprehend what has happened.”

Subhan was a talented footballer and had been scouted for Aston Villa under 19s. He was also a promising cricketer and took part in other sporting activities including Thai boxing and running.

The Foreign Office has confirmed they are supporting the family of a British man who died in Altinkum on May 18.
