THE Apollo Temple – one of the most underrated historic sites in Turkey – is to be the site of an official Guinness World Record bid during the second Didim Vegfest next month.

Upwards of 200,000 people are predicted to be flocking in to the festival which will seek to raise awareness of the food, lifestyle, diet and ethos of vegans and vegetarianism.

Didim Mayor Deniz Atabay said there will be festivities, surprise guests, live music, free food and other activities at the VegFest between April 20-23.

As part of this, Neslihan Yavuzcan, a leading breathing, sports and health guru, will be attempting a world record – by inviting people to conduct a mass-breathing exercise in the grounds of the Apollo Temple at 7pm on April 22.

If successful, Neslihan and his team will seek to get it recognised officially and recorded as a Guinness World record.

The activity has been coined as the ‘World is breathing through Didim’. It seeks to create a record for biggest crowd conducting a ‘natural breathing exercise’.

During the festival, Neslihan will be with his team from his Life and Breath Academy demonstrating his activities.

He said people will have to fill in a form via the facebook page of the festival for the record test.

Didim VegFest is being hosted in cooperation with Didim Municipality, Didim Tourism Infrastructure Association (DİTAB), Aydın Adnan Menderes University Didim, Kuşadası Vocational High Schools, and vegandiyetisyen.com.

The festival will discuss veganism, animal rights, health-nutrition and environment issues. Interviews and presentations with health experts, writers, artists, journalists, and trainers will also be held.

In addition, there will be kitchen workshops, exhibitions, concerts, autograph sessions, and record attempts along with a number of sports and breathing activities.

Local producers will also exhibit their 100 percent vegan products in the festival area. Different civil society organizations, associations, collectives and individuals are also expected to present their works on veganism.

Mr Atabay said the Festival could extend to a week in 2019.
