MEMBERS of the resort’s rubbish collecting group, Plogging in Didim, have held their first head to head meet with the town’s Governor Mehmet Türköz.
Having held successful events aimed at collecting rubbish from various areas across the resort over the summer, the group was delighted to have a meeting with Mr Türköz.
Roz Millington, a group member, informed the group’s Facebook page: “We met up with district governor at his offices, and we had an extremely effective and positive meeting.
“He’s a busy man, so this meeting was very welcome and his support will ensure our success, going forward. We’re feeling accomplished with these first baby steps, and I absolutely love plogging, and being involved with the local community.”
She added: “My job of work, prior to early retirement, partially involved environmental matters, a subject close to my heart personally too.
“Back in May, a group calling themselves Ploggers commenced, and I’ve been involved since the beginning.
“Essentially, we clean up the beaches, the ocean, picnic areas, coastal paths and walking routes of rubbish, mainly plastics, but really of any rubbish discarded by people who just don’t think of the repercussions for the environment, wildlife, mammals and marine life.
“Plogging in Didim aims to change mind sets, ultimately; with the immediate focus of getting children involved in schools, as they’re the future.”
The ploggers will be holding a general meeting a Koko cafe in Camlik Mah. this Saturday (Nov 3), at 11.30am.
In the meantime, the group continues to hold plogging events collecting rubbish from beaches. The events are open to the general public – and more information can b found on their Plogging in Didim Facebook page.
