THE sensitive renovation of the Exchange House, which will become a museum chronicling the Population Exchange of 1923, has received a major prize.

It has been recognised as a winner in the Cultural Heritage Protection and Encouragement Competition organised by the Association of Turkish Historical Towns.

President Deniz Atabay attended the ceremony in Antalya, along with Vice President E. Öznur Gündoğdu, Council Member Sinan Ceyhan and Restorer Architect Bahar Nazlıay.

The ceremony was held at the International Yapex Building and Restoration Fair which has become one of the traditional meeting points of the Turkish construction industry

Following the War of Independence, the settlers from the Hisar district were involved in the population exchange.

The two-storey house has been re-designed and renovated by the Didim Municipality and will reflect the story of that exchange.
