A comprehensive exhibition featuring the works of Renaissance painter Leonardo Da Vinci will open this summer at Kuşadası’s Öküz Mehmet Pasha Caravanserai.
Artworks including mechanics devices, original handwritten manuscripts and paintings, and drawings based on Da Vinci’s original sketches were first displayed in the exhibition entitled “Leonardo da Vinci Expo: A Genius in Istanbul.”
The show is the world’s largest with more than 100 artworks.
After making its premiere in Belgium, Istanbul was the second stop followed by Izmir. It was in Istanbul that the paths of Da Vinci crossed with the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.
Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II asked Da Vinci to make a drawing for a bridge connecting the two sides of the Golden Horn. He wanted to present this drawing to the sultan and it was found after years in archives.
The exhibition will open June 21 June to September 1.
The exhibition consists 28 handcrafts created by Da Vinci’s 500-year notes. In addition to seeing his sketches in fields such as architecture, engineering and anatomy, visitors will be able to see combat machines, a lathe machine and the first water ski.
