The Akbük Volunteers Group, which seeks to pursue and promote the interests of the village, have made an interesting call on those many thousands that come from the cities to stay at their beloved summer homes.
They want these city residents to make Akbük their permanent address so that the village can seek greater government funding for infrastructure improvements.
The recorded population of Akbük is around 7,000 but that swells by many times higher during the summer months. Some have put the estimate of the summer population above 10,000.
The Volunteers have now decided to call on residents and summer house owners to move their residences to Akbük.
Mehmet Çamlı, headman of Akbük Neighborhood, commented: “Each settlement receives a share according to the number of residences and serves within that scope. Tens of thousands benefit from the share and service allocated according to approximately 7 thousand residences.
“In addition to inadequate service, real residents suffer. If the official population increases, the share allocated from the public sector will increase and more employment rights will arise.”
The Volunteers have prepared a call letter in this context: “Friend of the summer cottage! Move your residence to Akbük! If Akbük reaches its real population, it will receive more shares from the public funds.”
While the campaign has been launched via Facebook and Whatsapp, the Volunteers also plan to hang banners in tradesmen’s places, on site advertisement walls, and organize meetings in necessary sites to achieve the purpose of the campaign.
