Foreigners living in Didim are continuing to gear up for The World Loves Didim Festival – a celebration of the town’s foreign legion.
According to different Facebook entries, the festival is being held on Friday and Saturday September 9 and 10 next to the Temple of Apollo.
There, apparently, will be stands for each of the foreign countries, focusing on the cultures, social lives and food, of at least 38 nations, whose peoples live in Didim.
The festival is being backed by the Chamber of Commerce, Didim Council and Didim District Migration Management Working Group. While preparatory meetings have been held since early summer, there is still very little detail on the content of the festival.
City Council President Osman Ayyıldız previously stated that the works carried out with official institutions and the invitation letters prepared for the festival were sent to the relevant embassies and consulates.
However, entries on Facebook from English, Scottish and Welsh residents have been noted, and at least one has suggested a parade, music and national dress of the countries being celebrated.
In a Facebook message from TeamScotland, it noted that there will be a piper and Scottish country dancing. It added: “The Scottish Heritage display stand will feature national costume tartan kilts explaining how these were worn to visually distinguish ancient family Clans, a demonstration of hand sewn craftsman made traditional kilts and a small tasting of our national dish “Haggis.”
