Didim student Maya Gördüemel has returned with a medal haul and several broken records following a national swimming trials event, held in Nazili, last weekend.
Maya competed in seven races for the age nine category – shocking not only parents, but coaches with her overall record-breaking performance.
She would have gained four golds in the 100m Back, 50m Back, 50m Butterfly and 50m Front Crawl and three silvers in the 100m Front Crawl, 50m Breaststroke and 100m Breaststroke, but sadly she was disqualified from one gold and one silver due to not touching the wall with both hands at the same time.
Nevertheless, Maya, whose mum is Samantha Brown, a long-time resident of Didim, is helping to put not only her talents on the sporting map. Her grandfather Ron Brown commented: “Her family are all deeply proud of her and we wish her all the very best for the future.”
Maya was also joined by her colleagues Mira Zeynep Dedemen, Derin Amcalar, Amine Ayliz Türkay, Kadir Çınar at the national event.
