Due to the Celalettin Rumi 750th Anniversary of Reunion International Commemoration Ceremonies, there are numerous local and foreign tourists in Konya.

In addition to the Sema Rite, many events such as panels, conferences, exhibitions, concerts, theatre shows and music concerts are held across the city from 7-17 December.

Guests coming to Konya visit the historical places of the city as well as the Mevlana Museum during the day and watch the Sema Rite held at the Mevlana Cultural Center in the evenings.

During the ceremonies, visitors from abroad, especially Iran, Pakistan, India, the Middle East Gulf countries and Europe attract attention.

70-year-old psychologist Peter Pondoifino, who came from the USA, stated Mevlana’s messages of love, humanity and tolerance impressed him the most. He said: “This is my first time in Konya, this place is wonderful, very beautiful, I liked it very much. Being in the Mevlana Museum was especially deep for me. It gives a feeling of peace.”

Muhammed Mubin, a 54-year-old British citizen, commented, “Turkey is like our home, this is the heart of peace, Konya is the city of hearts. Every time I come here, I leave with very positive impressions and feelings of respect and love for everyone.”

Chinese citizen Eric Jiang stated that he came to Turkey for the first time.

Emphasizing that he was very impressed by Mevlana, whom he heard from his friend, Eric Jiang said: “His view of life, and especially after death in his world of thought attracted my attention. We will go to the ceremonies this evening and watch the whirling dervishes.”

Patric Werner, who came from Germany, also noted that Mevlana’s messages influenced him.

What is the Seb-i Arus Ceremony?

Şeb-i Arus is a Persian word that essentially means wedding and celebration. However, in Mevlevi tradition, it is called the night when Celalettin Rumi died. According to Mevleviism, death is the day when God and real life are reached and should be celebrated.

During the ceremony, whirling dervish performances, speeches by famous Sufi thinkers, hymn programs and poetry recitals are usually held.
