Renovation works at an historic building close to the Temple of Apollo have been viewed by Didim District Governor Can Kazım Kuruca in an update with contractors.
The two-storey building was originally habited by Greeks and used as a local hospital. Following the 1924 population exchange between Turkey and Greece, it was used as a home by the grandchildren of immigrants who settled in the city and then later as a warehouse for the former German excavation team that carried out archaeological excavations in the Temple of Apollo and its surroundings.
While the historical building in Hisar District was transferred to the Miletus Museum Directorate in recent years, the wall of the building with a history of more than 100 years collapsed in 2020, unable to withstand the heavy rain.
Nearly four years on, restoration has been ongoing in the last few months. Didim District Governor Can Kazım Kuruca, who examined the restoration works that started in December last year, examined the works on site.
While he received information, no details have yet been announced publicly what the intended futue use of the building will be.
