Didim Chamber of Commerce President Hilmi Erbaş said that Didim is rapidly urbanizing and this situation brings many problems.

Erbaş said: “The rapid construction in our district needs to be controlled in a planned manner. The aesthetics of the buildings need to be inspected. In addition, the city’s resources will become insufficient after a while due to uncontrolled construction.

“Didim’s population is growing very fast. The people who settle here have social needs as well as needs such as water, energy and infrastructure. Migration to Didim needs to be under control; otherwise local governments will have difficulty in meeting the needs of citizens.”

Stating that Didim’s population has exceeded 100,000 and reaches over a million in the summer months, Erbaş said the deficiencies in areas without infrastructure and sewage should be eliminated.

The President of the Chamber of Commerce said that inflation also harmed Didim tourism: “With the recent high inflation, products and services have become expensive,” he said. “Today, we are being featured in the national and international press with headlines such as Turkey is more expensive than Greece, Turkey is more expensive than Germany.”
