Didim Mayor Hatice Gençay, who was elected as the first female mayor of Didim in the local elections on March 31, 2024, has offered an assessment of her first 100 days in office.

Evaluating the work done in the district, she said the council’s Parks and Gardens Directorate teams have continued to work feverishly throughout the area, and have mowed 984,046 m2 of grass and carried out maintenance work on an area of ​​300,000 m2.

For the work at the Akköy Medicinal Aromatic Plants and Ornamental Plants Nursery established by the Didim Municipality, Mayor Gençay said: “We produced 400,000 seasonal flowers in our nursery. At the same time, 65,000 vegetable seedlings were planted in our municipality field, and 5,770 kg of wheat was harvested. In addition, 764 kg of artichokes produced in the municipality field were canned.”

Gençay said, “We have also started a great fight against flies, houseflies, larvae and other pests so that Didim citizens can live in a healthier city. Since we took office, the teams of the Environmental Protection and Control Department have carried out pesticide spraying on an area of ​​30,428.80 hectares in the first 100 days. Our teams carry out their work in all neighborhoods of our district within a certain periodic framework.”

Meanwhile, the Cleaning Services Directorate teams collected 13,000 tons of household waste in the first 100 days. While 3157 km of streets were swept by the Cleaning Services Directorate personnel, 181,000 m2 of sand sifting work was carried out.

At the same time, the teams cleaned the roads, streets, garbage baskets and garbage containers in the district by washing them with pressurized water.

Mayor Gençay said: “In the first 100 days, we have sterilized 659 animals at our Stray Animals Protection and Rehabilitation Center within our Municipality. We also provided treatment to 1,171.”

The council has also responded to the requests, demands and complaints of 51,000 citizens, forwarded them to the relevant units and resolved them. In addition, it has responded to the messages of 26,000 citizens, analyzed the requests and complaints and forwarded them to the relevant units to act on.

A total of 33,000 local and foreign guests were hosted at the Didim Lavender Festival, organized by Didim Municipality for the 4th time this year.

Gençay added: “We have also carried out important works in our district since the day we took office. We will continue our works with the understanding of social municipality and citizen-oriented service. In the past months, we first reduced the tea price to 5 TL in our businesses, and recently we started the Barışköy Breakfast Garden within our municipality.

“In order to revitalize tourism, we opened the ferry services between Didim – Turgutreis – Bodrum together with Aydın Metropolitan Municipality and Muğla Metropolitan Municipality. We will continue our works feverishly so that our citizens can live in this modern city.”
