Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek announced that 700,000 taxpayers who earned rental income but did not submit a declaration were identified and that penal action would be taken against these individuals.

After the end of the declaration period regarding rental income. Şimşek stated that 95,989 taxpayers who earned rental income after the declaration process declared 18.3 billion liras of tax base and 1.2 billion liras of tax.

However, it was determined that approximately 700 thousand taxpayers, who were informed by the Revenue Administration (GİB), still had not filed a declaration. Information regarding these taxpayers will be forwarded to the relevant tax offices for penalties to be applied.

Reminding that the Revenue Administration has been conducting a comprehensive study to identify and inform taxpayers who are required to declare their rental income, Şimşek stated that housing and workplace rents above certain rental prices should be collected through bank accounts.

He also drew attention to the fact that the “rent payment” option should be used during the stage of making rental payments via IBAN.

Şimşek stated that the Revenue Administration sent reminder messages to approximately 700,000 taxpayers who earned rental income according to bank records before and during the income tax declaration period.

In addition, he stated that actual inspections were initiated on 1.5 million houses that were assessed to be potentially rented out based on information received from the land registry and population administrations.

He said that if they file a return, no tax loss penalty will be imposed and taxpayers will be able to file their returns electronically and make their payments easily.
