UK charity’s ‘rescue project’ for stray dogs
A charity in Eastbourne, southern England, is trying to transport stray dogs from shelters it works with in Turkey to the UK, following the introduction of the stray animal law.
Happy Paws Puppy Rescue aims to put the dogs up for adoption later. The organization is concerned about the possible effects of the new regulation, which came into effect on August 2, on stray dogs.
Happy Paws describes itself on its website as a charity that rescues dogs and successfully places them in foster homes. The dogs the organization rescues and places into foster homes are mostly Golden Retrievers, but there are also some other breeds.
In a statement, Happy Paws, said: “There are hundreds of Golden Retrievers in shelters in Turkey. We are rescuing as many Retrievers as possible. We have rescued and adopted hundreds of dogs over the years. However, this situation has become excessive and we are faced with the demands of shelters to keep the dogs safe. We are currently evaluating the situation and looking at how many dogs we can take in.”
