29th Didim Peace Festival celebrated

The 29th Peace Festival events were organized across last Sunday and Monday (Sept 1-2) and saw many locals and foreign national taking part.

The festival was organized in partnership with Didim Municipality, Didim Tourism Infrastructure Service Union (DİTAB), Didim Association, Didim Tourism Association and Aegean Peace and Friendship Association. It is held each year in Didim within the scope of September 1st World Peace Day.

The program included a procession from in front of Medusa Beach Club to the Peace Statue at the far end of Yalı Caddesi, Altinkum. It followed an exhibition of peace pictures drawn by children.

The animation team also included colorful images in the march for peace. After the march that ended in Aytepe, peace torches were lit in front of the Peace Monument and doves were released.

The program continued with a folk dance show and a concert by Didyma Polyphonic Children’s Choir. The event ended with a concert by Yağmur Akoğlu and Grup Peekay.

On the second day of the festival, which was held around the Temple of Apollo, folk songs and poems, and folk dance shows were performed.

In an opening speech, Didim Association President Filiz Hekimoğlu, said “Since September 1st, the date when Poland was invaded after the start of World War II, was declared World Peace Day, people all around the world have been trying to explain how important peace is, how necessary it is for human history, and that it actually started with very simple requests.

“But unfortunately, from time to time, we sometimes face hot and sometimes cold wars. I wish we could approach our future, which we can truly celebrate, step by step, on September World Peace Day.”

After the speeches, the program continued with a local folk dance show; music, poetry, melodies and interviews by local artists. In the program, guests from the Greek island of Samos played and sang Greek songs. At the end of the event, a documentary was shown.
