Didim-based Ukrainian Sofia Bychyk came away as a champion at the 15th World Karate Championships in Sheffield, England.
She came first in the 14-15 years old age category of the Shobu Ippon discipline at the KTC event held on September 5-8.
Sofia, who studies at Didim American College, also took third in the 14-15 yrs Shito-Shoto Individual Kata category and third in the Shobu Sanbon branch.
Previously, in the WKC European Karate Championships, with over 1,000 athletes from 21 countries taking part, Sofia took third place in the kumite competition among athletes aged 12-13 years.
As the only representative of Ukraine among 700 participants from 12 countries at the WKC Karate World Championship three years ago, in Belgrade, Sofia achieved two silver awards in the 12-13-years-old age category in the disciplines Kumite Ippon and Kumite Sanbon.
