Update

Didim Mayor Hatice Gençay spoke recently on a number of issues.

Amphitheatre

She reiterated her hopes that the town’s Amphitheatre will reopen this year. The amphitheatre has not been in use for several months as it remains mired in a legal dispute. But Mayor Gencay said the amphitheatre will be in active use in the new season.

Operation of beaches

Reminding that the council has obtained the operating rights for all the beaches in Didim, Mayor Gençay said: “Didim beaches were always operated by someone else. After taking office, we got results and as Didim Municipality, we took the operating rights of all the beaches. We will now organize all the beaches and we will operate them as Didim Municipality. This is a great gain for Didim,” she said.

Shelter plans

She also added that shortly after taking office, the council applied and went to Ankara to get the shelter location resolved following a series of meetings. “This is currently ongoing with our work and planning projects. We have a shelter location worthy of Didim. This issue is also very advantageous and pleasing for us.”

New cemetery location

Noting that they have applied for 3 different locations for a new cemetery to be added to Didim, Mayor Gençay said that the process has reached its final stage.

Looking ahead

She mentioned that a new restaurant will be brought to Didim and that it could possibly open in mid-February. Work has also begun on a new park to be named after Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, who was killed in Palestine. Both locations will be opened together.

Gençay, noted that they are trying to sell the “Dıdyma” branded products produced in the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Nursery belonging to the Didim Municipality in different places. She said: “We support each other in creating a market between all the products produced in our region, especially by our women, or produced within our municipality.”
