The Board of Directors of the Didim Chamber of Commerce recently convened with members of the press to assess the tourism season and discuss various pertinent topics.
Hilmi Erbaş, while acknowledging that the figures for 2023 fell slightly short of their initial expectations, pointed out that rising operational costs and regional conflicts influenced tourists’ choices.
Hopes for 2024
In addition to discussing the current tourism season, Erbaş shared insights into future developments, highlighting positive demand trends and expressing hope for an even more prosperous season if the extraordinary developments in the region continue.
Erbaş noted that the forthcoming investments in 2024 are expected to increase the region’s bed capacity significantly. These investments include new projects that are in the planning stage, as well as contributions from local investors.
As the bed capacity expands, the ongoing Didim Sectoral Development Strategies Project, supported by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, is poised to play a crucial role in the region’s development.

Erbaş said: “We are eager to host the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, in Didim. Although our initial plans couldn’t be realized due to scheduling conflicts, we are actively working on discussions with the Ministry and Members of Parliament to make this visit a reality.”
Regulation on Second Homes Welcomed
Chamber of Commerce Vice President Hikmet Atilla, drew attention to the recent legislative changes regarding homes rented for tourism purposes, which were recently approved by the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

He highlighted the significant role that second homes have played in the disparity between the number of tourists arriving and the recorded accommodation data.
To address this issue, he noted that tour operators and travel agencies can incorporate individuals who adhere to their legal obligations into their systems.
This change aims to create a more regulated and accountable rental environment for tourists and property owners alike.
