Nine home owners in Akbük have each been fined 94,622 TL after being caught illegally renting property.

Didim District Gendarmerie Command officials took action after the nine were found to be daily renting their homes without a licence and the necessary documents. A total of 851,598 TL in fines was imposed.

Gendarmerie officials stated that unlicensed rentals both negatively affect the tourism sector and cause tax loss.

They carried out an inspection of houses rented for tourism purposes and that these inspections against such illegal rentals would continue, with the necessary steps being taken.

In a separate move, two individuals in Güzelçamlı, Kuşadası, were also recently fined similar amounts for renting their homes for a day without permission.

Didim Real Estate Consultants Association President Umut Öz explained the legal process, stating: “In accordance with the legal regulation made by the Ministry regarding daily house rentals, daily rented houses have been included in the status of a boarding house.

“With the new law published in October 2023, it has become mandatory to obtain a tourism residence certificate for daily house rentals as of 2024. Applications are made with certain documents for the tourism rental permit.

“This includes “Consent form from all flat owners, a title deed sample obtained from the Web Land Registry, a photocopy of the back and front of the ID, a signature declaration, and applications are made via e-government as the place and method of application.

“When you write “Tourism Purpose Housing 12th Certificate Application” in the search bar, you can be directed to the relevant page and perform the transaction.”

Reminding that serious administrative fines are imposed on those who do not comply with legal conditions, Öz said: “Since unlicensed rentals both negatively affect the tourism sector and cause tax loss, we as an association will report the complaints from our citizens to our law enforcement officers during inspections against such activities and will follow up on the issue.”
