LESS than three months since the newly resurfaced Marina Road (Adnan Menderes Bulvari) was completed, a 250 metre stretch collapsed following an 11-hour rainfall on September 22.
The affected part of the two-lane highway heads away from the bottom island close to Third Beach.
The buckling of the road looks as if a major tremor had caused the damage.
Neverthless its state resulted in it being closed off to traffic after the Kurban Bayram
Aydin Council, which laid the road, swung into action on Monday Sept 28, digging a massive trench and scraping off newly laid tarmac in preparation for it to be done yet again.
Part of the highway approaching the island has been reduced to single vehicle traffic while the repairs continue.
