Update

Didim-CourtA NUMBER of British expats gathered at Didim Court on Wednesday as part of an effort to challenge hospital charges.

Voices revealed in November that foreigner residents were being charged the new tourist price of 80TL to see a doctor – compared to 15.50TL.

Residents this week took their concerns to court when a British couple was charged 80TL and were seeking to get refunds.

There are also concerns about the high cost of treatments being charged and then once challenged being negotiated downwards.

In a facebook comment, resident Kevin Sweet called on expat residents to come forward and demand refunds, after he and his wife were charged 80TL.

From what Voices understands as of November, there three schemes and three price brackets – the SGK price, one for those with residence permits and those who were tourists.

While the SGK continues, it appears from what Voices has learned that residents with permits have been merged in with the tourist system – and are now being charged tourist rates.

Voices will continue to monitor the situation on pricing which appears to have been handed down by the Department of Health.
