POLICE have detained at least one burglary suspect after a dramatic car chase led to a vehicle smashing into a wall of an apartment building.
Officers gave chase to a red car early Monday, but the driver lost controlled and smashed into a wall on Vatan Caddesi. One person was detained at the scene,
According to information obtained, police received a tip off that led to them wanting to speak to a person emerging from a local hotel on Ege Caddesi .
However, the man fled the scene in a car, but the chase was short-lived when it smashed into a wall.
It was discovered that the suspect had a criminal record of 16 separate incidents of theft. Police detained him for questioning.
One eye witness told Voices: “There was a police chase outside our house this morning. Three police cars chasing another car with some guy. The car crashed into a wall before stopping outside our apartment and the police gave chase.
“There were by this time several police cars and a fire truck, and the road was blocked off.”
In recent weeks, and separate to the above, there have been a number of stealth burglaries in and around Didim.
A reader has warned that burglars are trying to get into properties by using a plastic credit card.
She said: “I reported a couple of weeks ago that two well dressed women were going into open complexes and trying all doors, gaining entry and stealing cash and jewellery.
“It has happened again to a family that was by the pool. Although these metal doors look secure, they can easily be opened with a plastic card if not locked. Please top lock your door every time, either when you are in or when you are by the pool.
“Only last week when my husband went out, less than 5 mins later someone was trying our door. I opened the door and they asked if I had lost my credit card they had in their hand (which they were) obviously trying (to open) my door! When I said I knew what they were doing they ran down the stairs and out of the building.”
