DIDIM AKUT – the volunteer search and rescue organisation– hosted an important meeting with the founder of the national set up last week.

It was the first visit from AKUT’s national founder and President Nasuh Mahruki.

Didim AKUT’s membership is multinational which Nasuh referred to as being unique and something to be proud of.

Last Friday Nasuh met the active members of the Didim team, where he was able express his thanks for all of their efforts on behalf of AKUT and the community.

Nasuh was told of how Didim AKUT had grown from a few dedicated volunteers to an organisation which now has its own dedicated office and training facility at Didim fire station thanks to the support of the newly elected mayor, Deniz Atabay.

He was also told of how the group has increased its own search and rescue equipment and how there has been a recruitment drive of young Turkish members.

Steve Lambert, team leader for Didim, said, “We were able to show Nasuh how far we had come, and in particular how well our recruitment of members of the Turkish community is going.

“We thought, at first, that language issues might be a problem with the new members but I am pleased to say this has not been the case we have all integrated very well, and there is a great team spirit”.

Last  Saturday Nasuh Mahruki, Steve Lambert and Fatih Saglam, Steve’s deputy met with Didim’s mayor Deniz Atabay to discuss how they could build on the support the mayor had already provided and several new initiatives were outlined for the future.
