THE 19th annual Didim Peace Festival was enjoyed by dozens of people as they walked, ran and sang last Sunday and Monday.
The main focus was on Monday with a Peace Run from Apollo Temple to Altinkum Main Beach kicking off the festivities.
The theme was children– given the suffering of children in war zones in the Middle East and elsewhere and the need for peace.
The Peace Run attracted about 30 participants with about 10 expats and tourists taking part. Michael McNally, (51), a prison officer from Newcastle, came in second place to Ahmet Bulut (21).
Michael said: “I have been competing in 5km races back home, so it was good to have run out here. I was pretty close to winning, but I was just pipped in the final stages.”
Michael’s wfe, Susan, added: “He did really well and I am pleased for him.”
Others opting for a more casual approach to the walk included Ted Sheppard, his son Paul and partner Sonia, as well as Hazel Huxley and her partner Mick. The expat line-up also included Dave Boulter.
The festivities continued with a panel forum of speakers discussing children and peace, a children’s puppet show, a peace walk from Medusa Nightclub to Aytepe’s Peace Flame and a finale concert on the beach.
