A CAMPAIGN spearheaded by a Didim expat to help underprivileged school children has raised 3,000TL in a matter of weeks.
However, Jill Robinson has called on Voices readers to dig deep and find a final 1,000TL that will help the total fund to cover the costs of 10 needy local children.
The money will be put towards providing basic school clothing and school equipment, from bags and pens to books and pencils.
Jill, who is being helped in her task by the Zebra Play Café, said: “Last year, my 9 year old was coming home from school hungry even though he took lunch money. It came out that a child was exceptionally poor and often brought no lunch so I started to provide lunch through the canteen.
“Then September came and on the first day back almost every child was showing their school equipment off, but there was a child who sat quietly in the corner with nothing. So I asked what was wrong and she said she didn’t have a pencil or a pencil case. A quick trip to a stationary shop made that child smile.
“No child asked to go to school in winter with flip flops on or look at the floor to avoid the other children asking to see their pencil case through no fault of their own they don’t have one.
“I would like to think that we have all been fortunate enough to never be in this position. which is why it is so important to get involved.”
In late January, Jill set up their campaign Every Need Didim 2015 to raise 400TL to cover 10 local chilren’s needs.
So far, the community has responded fantastically and raised 3,000TL, but Jill has urged Voices readers to help reach her final total.
