A BRITISH tourist was hospitalized after being attacked by five dogs while hiking in Cappadocia.
British tourist Alexander Ecoromou (35) was attacked by the stray dogs on Tuesday in Cappadocia, one of Turkey’s most popular tourist destinations.
Ecoromou was hiking through a valley in the Göreme district, renowned for its ‘fairy chimney’ rock formations, when five stray dogs attacked him, biting him in the neck, arms and legs.
The wounded British tourist was able to save himself from the dogs with the help of nearby locals and other tourists, and is now receiving treatment at the Private Cappadocia Hospital.
He has now been vaccinated for rabies and is in good condition.
“I was attacked by five or six dogs as I was wandering the valley,” explains Ecoromou, “They began dragging me along the ground, I was terrified.
“For a moment I thought I was going to die.” Eventually getting free of the dogs and calling for help on his phone, he added that people nearby arrived on the scene to assist him and get him to the hospital.
Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist Dr. Mustafa Akar treating Ecoromou explained how the patient had arrived with many wounds and significant blood loss, and was immediately taken into surgery where his wounds were cleaned and stitched up.
He will be kept at the hospital for a week so as to monitor his condition.
