Sirince
People who believed that the doomsday would happen on December 21, 2012, the last day of the Mayan calendar, flocked here because it was believed to be the place to survive the apocalypse.
Although the Mayans were wrong (fortunately), this belief worked for the businesses in the region in terms of tourism. Many things were arranged, from apocalyptic-themed food menus to events.
However, Şirince has always been a remarkable village with its beautiful and calm nature, wines, and architecture.
Sirince Wines: The most prominent feature of Şirince is its wines. Since it is an old Greek village, winemaking is a very old occupation, but recently it has received criticism from many wine-savvy people due to the increase in fabricated fruit wines.
However, since you have the opportunity to try wine for free in all wine shops, you will not return without finding the wine you like.
My favorite place where I especially like red wine is Kıvırcık Wine House. Specify here what you want specifically from homemade wine. You should also try some of the fruity wines here. He does not use aromas in his wines. They produce from real fruit.
Another popular winery is Hera Wine House. By tasting, you can choose the most suitable wine for you. This is on Sirince Village Inner Road 37-35.
Architecture and Nature: It is a must-visit place for those looking for a quiet holiday, especially during the week. It is possible to stay here in old stone houses suitable for the general architecture of the village. A night out here can be quite relaxing, as many hotels have views of green nature. Since the bazaar of Şirince, which is a small place, is full, it is very enjoyable to visit the shops and stalls.
Churches: St John the Baptist Church and Saint Dimitrios Church are the two oldest churches in the village. However, they were places that made me sad while I was visiting due to bad restoration and neglect. Still, I think you should see them when you come. If you stop by the cafe next to the church, ask for elderberry syrup. It is made from elderberry flower, has a refreshing taste and is said to be medicinal.
Theater Madrasa: The person who built the houses that make up the general architecture of the village and the person who built this theater center are the same person, Sevan Nişanyan. Theater Madrasa is an important initiative as it organizes international theater training camps and plays theatrical performances. Fındık Cafe is the best place to drink Turkish coffee cooked in Şirince. They serve their coffee with elderberry syrup.
Ephesus Ancient City
Founded in 8600 BC, the ancient city grew to become one of the most important cities of its time due to its important location. The city, which shines with its fertile lands, being a port city, and trade routes passing through here, lived its most beautiful age after being connected to the Roman Empire in 129 BC.
However, the earthquake in the 6th and 7th centuries caused serious damage to the city. In addition, the port is filled with alluvium causing the port road to be closed and Ephesus to regress.
Today, a few ruins from the Lydians and the city ruins from the Romans are very interesting for tourists. In addition, the fact that this place is considered a pilgrimage center for Christians is a prominent reason for visiting.

There are bus links departing from Didim Bus Station to Selcuk Bus Station, and from there, catch departing Sirince and Ephesus minibusses.
