A CAMPAIGN is being launched to raise 18,000TL to buy potential life-saving equipment for a new cardiology unit at Didim State Hospital.
Presently, Turkish and expat residents have to visit regional hospitals, such as Soke, for heart and general cardio assessments as there are no facilities at the town’s hospital.
However campaigners for the Help-in-Hands organisation has stepped into launch what is its most ambitious project yet.
The money raised will go towards buying two high-tech cardio assessments units, as well as furniture, for the unit.
Lyn Coles, of Help-in-Hands, said: “This campaign will really help and unite the whole community in tackling cardio-related problems.
“The government has agreed to fund a cardio specialist at the hospital and we have agreed to raise the money necessary to create the unit.
“Once set up, it will go a long way towards helping to provide emergency and routine assessment of residents, without the need for them to travel to Soke and elsewhere.
“It will deliver a truly local service for a long time to come.”
Sebnem Oz Tezel, of Didim Town Council, which is also backing the campaign, said the fundraisers had been in contact with Didim State Hospital Chief Dr. Fatma, Aydogan, who had given her blessing to the project.
Sebnem added: “We will look to buy two heart monitors for patients and provide assessment for patients who need it. It will be a great addition to the hospital.”
Performances
The campaign is being aided by proceeds from ticket sales of the Didim Glee Club’s Old Time Music Hall performances.
Performances will take place on Thursday and Friday June 11-12 at the Ticeret Odasi Salonu, which is opposite the small Tesco Kipa on 19 Mayis Cad in Didim.
