A BRITISH couple have spoken of their ‘devastation’ after a camera, containing sentimental moments of their grandchildren, was stolen in a burglary at their property in Didim.
Colin and Sandra Evans, from Halesowen, near Birmingham, in the West Midlands, discovered burglars had smashed their way into their villa on Oasis Villa complex, off Adnan Menderes Bulvari, on Monday night (June 15) after returning from a night out with friends.
Money, personal effects, a Nikon camera and video camera, as well as a mobile phone, were among the items stolen after the burglars crow-barred their way in through grills and into the house.
Police attended and are investigating the incident. People arriving at the complex on Monday night had heard banging at about 11pm and assumed it was people carrying out DIY on the night.
Mrs Evans (65), who has only just retired as a wedding retailer, said she and her husband were desperate to recover the photographs of special moments of their grandchildren, her recent retirement part and other personal images on a camera memory card.
She praised her local management company API for responding effectively and efficiently, and ensuring they could remain in the villa after police had carried out finger-printing of the property.
On Thursday, Mrs Evans speaking to Voices, said: “It is the first time I have ventured out of the villa in three days because I just don’t want to leave. All things run through your head.
“We have been on holiday for four weeks and we had gone to a local bar on Adnan Menderes Bulvari with friends and returned just after midnight to discover the mess the burglars had left behind. The villa was a wreck.
“They pulled drawers and made a complete mess. While money and other items can be replaced, it was the loss of the memory card which held all our sentimental moments with the grandkids that we are desperate to get back. It’s utterly heartbreaking.”
She added: “There are suspicions as to who did this, but only suspicions. The police and API have been great and we only hope that we can get the pictures back as those are memories that have been permanently stolen from our lives.”
